The School

The American International School of Lusaka was established in 1986. It is an American Embassy school, and is governed by a partly appointed and partly elected Board of Directors. It is accredited by both the Council of International Schools and the Middle States Association and is authorised to offer the Primary Years Program, Middle Years Program and the Diploma Program of the International Baccalaureate Organisation. The school’s motto isInspiring Excellence, Encouraging Compassion, Creating Leaders.         

The school is situated on 23 acres of beautifully manicured gardens in the African countryside, with excellent facilities including over 40 classrooms, 3 swimming pools, a Performing Arts Centre, 3 computer labs, an Early Learning Centreand a full size Gymnasium. Zambia is an easy, peaceful and diverse country, with the spectacular Victoria Falls and some of the best opportunities for safaris in the world.        

The school is divided into the two major divisions of primary school and secondary school, each of which is headed up by a Principal. Each division contains over 250 children and total school enrollment is 520. Approximately 20% of students are from the US. Other larger grouping include students from Zambia, the UK, South Africa, with the rest drawn from another 35 nations. There are over 100 people employed at the school, of which 66 are teachers, drawn from eleven different countries. The administrative council consists of the Director, the two Principals, and the three IB Coordinators.
